All subjects are allocated more time than the minimum national requirements. For the core of English, Mathematics and Science, students study four hours per week for each subject. Further, there is a particular focus on Sport (three hours), ICT and Computing and the creative subjects of Music, Drama and Art.
Students complete their GCSEs over three years from Years 9 to 11. We encourage students to follow the English Baccalaureate which provides a broad and balanced curriculum. In this programme, all students study a core curriculum of English, Mathematics, Triple Science, a Humanity (History or Geography) and Language (French and/or Spanish). In addition to the English Baccalaureate’s core curriculum subjects, students are also given the option to study another two subjects of their choice.
Our Sixth Form is a springboard into Higher Education, employment or further training. Students can choose from a wide range of over 20 academic and vocational courses at A Level and BTEC, including the specialisms of IT and Creative & Digital Media. All students play a key role in the Academy’s peer coaching programme, providing the opportunity to develop leadership skills and mentor younger students to become confident learners. Sixth Formers are expected to take a mature approach to their work and adopt a professional standard of dress, reflecting the ethos and ambitions of the Academy. When students leave Hammersmith Academy, they not only have impressive qualifications but are also confident, articulate, courteous and driven.
