At Hammersmith Academy we believe that a well-balanced, nutritional diet is hugely important for our students’ learning and development. Free School Meals

Students may be eligible for Free School Meals if their parent/carer:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.

Your child may also get free school meals if you get any of these benefits and your child is both:

  • younger than the compulsory age for starting school
  •  in full-time education

If you do not qualify for most benefits (also known as having ‘no recourse to public funds’), your child may still be eligible for free school meals. Ask their school or local authority whether they’re eligible.

We encourage parents to claim for Free School Meals even if your child does not want one every day, as the Academy receives an extra payment in the form of Pupil Premium for every child that is entitled to Free School Meals.

The Academy actively encourages all families who may be entitled to Free School Meals to apply. To check whether you are eligible and to apply for Free School Meals, please click here.

Children who received Free School Meals at primary school will continue to receive them at Hammersmith Academy as long as their parent/carer still qualifies for one of the above benefits.

Breakfast

At Hammersmith Academy we believe that all students deserve every opportunity to achieve their best. Multiple studies have shown that the odds of achieving an above average educational performance are up to twice as high for students who eat breakfast, compared with those who do not.

To ensure our students get off to the best possible start on a daily basis, the Academy offers breakfast in the cafeteria at a reduced cost.

So why not get your child ready to face a busy day with a HA breakfast!
