The Academy welcomes its newest and most numerous members of the HA community.
The Academy’s rooftop garden is now home to three colonies of honey bees. The new additions are part of a drive to increase biodiversity in the local area, whilst at the same time supporting refugees fleeing the Syrian conflict.
The bees have been provided by charity, Bees and Refugees, who will also be looking after them on a regular basis. The charity will also benefit from the sale of honey the hives produce.
Students will be able to learn all about the importance of biodiversity and food production safely as the hives have been placed in a non-contact area, and can be observed behind glass.
Thank you Dr Kirwan for organising the delivery of our new arrivals and to Ali from Refugees and Bees who will be taking care of them.
