Music

A Level Music

Music is the art of manipulating emotion through sound. That is so powerful, to be able to change how other people feel and, in the process, yourself as well

Ms Slav (Head of Music)

BTEC Music provides students with the opportunity to gain self-confidence through performing, as well as developing creative and collaborative skills. Students will specifically focus on performance techniques in a range of styles and contexts, as well as developing their knowledge of theory and harmony in composition. Learning about the music industry will give them the skills needed to enter into the music profession directly, or move on to further education.

Students should have a keen interest in creating and listening to different styles of music. They will have access to the Academy’s music technology suite, radio and recording studio, and theatre, as well as music practice rooms for independent rehearsal. There will also be the opportunity to work in the local community and in professional music spaces, such as the Royal College of Music. Whilst the course largely focuses on performance, students will additionally study areas of music theory, analysis and compositional skills.

Exam Board: Pearson

Entry Requirements: Eight or more GCSEs at grades 9-4 including GCSE English, Grade 5 minimum in Music GCSE or Distinction in BTEC Level 2 Music. Ability to play an instrument or sing at Grade 3 or 4 standard.
