Art

Asking ‘what do you like about art?’ is like asking ‘what do you like about life?’

Ms Samuels (Head of Art)

Art, Craft and Design develops a visual form of communication and expression that is equal in its importance to literacy and numeracy. It is an important part of the development of young people’s creativity.

The course is an exciting opportunity to explore a range of Art and Design processes through a number of themed and personalised projects. From fine art painting and sculpture to photography and Photoshop illustration, students will learn new skills and techniques, alongside refining those gained at GCSE.

Students will broaden their foundation skills in drawing, painting and 3D model making. These skills, alongside graphic software and critical and contextual studies, will allow learners to develop engaging personal projects that will see the progression of ideas from initial thoughts to an individual and artistic outcome.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to visit a range of exhibitions and galleries, enter work into national competitions, as well as explore a range of artists, both historical and contemporary, from a varied scope of cultures and backgrounds.

Exam Board: Edexcel

Entry Requirements: Eight or more GCSEs at grades 9-4 including a minimum grade 6 in Art and Design or equivalent. A portfolio of work will also need to be seen.
