MFL – French and Spanish

7 – 11 MFL – French and Spanish

Languages is the one subject which all of my friends say they wish they had studied more at school, it is so essential to be able to speak a language to not only travel the world but also to work in an increasingly globalised work place.

Ms Colverson (Teacher of French and Spanish)

Exam Board: AQA

Qualification: GCSE French or Spanish

Assessment: Four equally weighted (25%) final exams as a 2 year linear course. Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking examinations

Speaking another language is an invaluable skill that can be taken to as high a level as you are willing to put the work into to go. When completely immersing one’s self in a different language and culture, you gain a greater understanding of not only what people are saying, but their culture, their personality, even how they think.

Recent adventures in MFL

In the past we have been part of multilateral project involving schools in France, Spain, Germany and Italy. Students had the opportunity to spend a week in the schools in each country and to develop their intercultural understanding.

We take part in an event at SOAS every year called IllumiNations where students are able to learn about different cultures around the globe.

We also usually organise a trip to the Christmas markets in France and to Paris over Easter.

Our current Year 8 students entered the  Euro 2017 Languages competition and won a visit of the Arsenal stadium.
