Moving to a new school is always going to feel a little bit daunting and at the same time exciting.
We are really looking forward to you joining us. We promise that we will look after you, educate you and help you fulfil your potential.
We are really excited to meet you all on the 13th June when you come in for your parental interviews and to have your new uniforms fitted. We'll be seeing you again on the 14th July when you will be the first students to see inside the new Academy when you come for a welcome evening with your parents. We'll be able to tell you lots more about what your lives are going to be like when you join up in September.
Year 7 Independent Learning
We want all our students to be learning all through the summer holidays. In order to fully prepare for your induction at Hammersmith Academy we expect you to complete the following learning activities. Please bring them with you to the Academy on 8th September 2011. You should complete every activity so that you are proud of the final piece of work.

History
Title – ‘The History of Me’
Write an autobiography of yourself. You should include as much information about yourself as possible. You can start with when you were born and the schools that you attended. You should add any friendships, events or experiences that were important or memorable to you.
You may want to illustrate your personal history with drawing or pictures.
|
Geography
Title – ‘The Geography of Me’
Investigate the geographical origins of your family. You should talk to different generations of your family or carers about their heritage. Your task is to demonstrate on a map where different members of your family are from. You can go as far back into your ancestry as possible so remember to ask your grandparents about their parents etc... You can either draw the map or use ICT to help you map your family. You should use national flags and a brief description of each place for each family member.
You could write a description of where you live and the things you like about your area. You might want to include anything you think can be improved in your local area.

Religious Education
Title – ‘My Beliefs’
Carry out a small piece of research into a religion of your choice. You can choose the religion that you follow or you may decide to investigate a completely different religious group. You should outline what the key beliefs of the religion are. Then you should identify any major religious festivals and describe their significance.
You should then write a short piece explaining your beliefs. You can illustrate this with pictures and drawings if you choose.

English
Title: - ‘My memory.’
Think of a time you remember really clearly and write a vivid description of that memory. For example, you might remember the moment you first met your younger brother or the day you moved into a new home or anything at all you can remember really clearly which is important to you for some reason.
You should aim to show off how well you can write in clearly punctuated sentences and paragraphs. Use a range of interesting vocabulary and sentence structures to convey your emotions and make sure your reader really understands why it is such a special memory.

Science and Maths
Title – ‘My Science Terrace’
You will have all visited the Science Terrace on your tour of the building. Your task is to design what you think the Science Terrace should look like. The space is a rectangle which measures 2 metres in width and 10 metres in length.
Using your understanding of Maths draw a scale plan of the garden using squared paper. You can then fill it with anything you think should be included in the Science Terrace. You can use the internet to identify what plants, animals etc... you think should be in the garden. You should then arrange these on your scale plan (remember to keep them to scale!).
