Student Structure

Houses

All students are allocated to one of four Houses. They will support the pastoral requirements of the students and encourage the keen Inter-House rivalry which will manifest itself in a wide range of competitions.

Although pastoral care is predominantly within the vertical tutor groups, the House system will still remain a strong and important part of Hammersmith Academy.

Many activities and competitions will take place within the Academic year to climax in House Awards and trophies.

Vertical Tutor Groups

The pastoral system at Hammersmith Academy takes a small number of students from each year to form one tutor group. This system provides smaller more personal units within the larger Academy and provides specific support and care throughout a student’s education, from Years 7 to 13. It also enables peer mentoring opportunities for older students and a chance to learn from older, more experienced students, for the younger students.

Students in each Year meet regularly at their own weekly assembly and, through the pastoral teams, have the opportunity to accept positions of responsibility, and to contribute to the wider life of the Academy.
