Student care and Support
The Academy environment has been designed to ensure that students are motivated and enthused to learn.
All students should feel safe, secure and happy within the Academy. Students who accept a place at the Academy will be making a commitment to:
- work hard;
- take full advantage of all the opportunities offered;
- become successful, participating members of the Academy community.
Students are expected to abide by the Academy Code of Conduct, in order to maintain a positive and happy atmosphere at all times in which every student can thrive. Students must not disrupt other students or prevent them from working. Bullying in any form is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. All students will dress in full uniform, helping to create the identity and sense of belonging, within the Academy community.
Partnerships
A close working partnership between parents, students and staff will lead to a successful educational experience. We will work closely with parents and carers to ensure that every student achieves their very best, in all activities within the Academy. Your involvement will make a significant difference in your child’s education.
Curriculum
The curriculum in each key stage is divided into 9 modules, with each module being 4 weeks long. These provide short term targets, focusing students and helping improve standards. Each module is assessed and students and parents receive a progress report.
Personal tutoring
We believe there are significant benefits for all students from positive peer to peer interaction. We also believe parents should have a personal point of contact for queries or issues relating to their child’s educational development. We achieve this through a ‘House’ system with small tutor groups of mixed aged students. During tutorial time the older students develop leadership and coaching skills, by supporting younger students, to work independently and develop their skills and knowledge. Every student will also have a personal ‘work-based’ business mentor who will monitor and discuss progress with them.
Support for individual students
The Academy is an all-ability school that is committed to equality of opportunity and will admit students from across the whole range of ability. The Academy will endeavour to provide individual support for students with special requirements, including extension provision for gifted and talented students. The Academy will comply with the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice and, as far as is reasonably practical, those with physical and learning disabilities will be offered maximum access to the curriculum.
Safety and security
Hammersmith Academy is committed to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of its students through rigorous policies and practices. The school will provide a safe and secure environment for everyone through controlled access, security systems and onsite security. We will provide an environment where bullying is unacceptable. To this end, it will be given a high profile in the Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) programme, in tutor time and in assemblies. The Student Council will be actively encouraged to discuss issues such as bullying and will provide a forum for students to actively contribute to the running of the Academy. For a copy of our policies please contact the Academy.
Celebrating success
We believe that all student achievement should be recognised. Great emphasis will be placed on celebrating success and promoting responsible behaviour. There will be regular individual, class, House and year group celebrations, culminating in the annual Hammersmith Academy Awards Ceremony, which will recognise effort, achievement and participation in the Academy community.
