Gifted &Talented

Our Vision

We believe that all students are entitled to an education that will enable them to develop their full potential, be that intellectual, physical, aesthetic, emotional, spiritual or social.

Every young person has individual needs, which must be met if they are to fulfil their potential. Hammersmith Academy is committed to individually planning the education of every child as far as possible. We will provide a sufficiently challenging curriculum for all students, and in addition to identify and nurture those who are particularly able.

How do we define ‘Gifted and Talented’?

By the term ‘Gifted and Talented’ we mean:

  • Students who show an exceptional talent. This might be in a curriculum area, or may be a less easily acknowledged talent such as leadership or creative imagination.
  • Students who possess a general academic learning ability that is significantly greater than that of most of their peers.

How are students identified as Gifted and/or Talented?

No single method of identification can be entirely accurate. We therefore endeavour to obtain as much information about individual students as possible. Methods employed include:

  • Internal and external assessment and testing
  • Information from primary schools
  • Subject specific criteria
  • Teacher nomination

How will evaluation and monitoring take place?

Consistent practice across the Academy is of paramount importance and we will continue to evaluate our progress. The Senior Leadership Team will be working with departments and the Gifted and Talented Coordinator to monitor work undertaken with the G&T cohort. This work will be discussed at Senior Management meetings and the Curriculum Committee of the Governing Body.

The Programme

Students will be stretched, stimulated and challenged within and across curriculum subjects. In addition there will be a bespoke programme of activities throughout the academic year to enhance Personal Learning Targets (PELTS).

G&T Activities

Many activities will be planned throughout the year for our most able students. Details will be provided as arrangements are finalized.
